In the developing world, losing a facial part can be devastating. It is often the beginning of a cycle of hardship resulting in the loss of jobs, family and friends, self-esteem, social acceptance – and ultimately, hope.

Our Story.
Our Commitment.

Prosthetics For All is a nonprofit organization established in 2022 by a cohort of facial prosthetics specialists inspired by the initiatives Janelle (Nelly) James and Francesca Gelai, founders of Nairobi-based ocular prosthetics clinical program, Eyes For All, established in 2018. James and Gelai are trained ocularists devoted to improving access to ocular and facial prostheses for patients in undeserved regions of Africa. They believe that not only should services be made accessible, but that training local clinicians in areas of need is crucial to providing sustainable, long-term care.

Although prosthetic services exist for patients, the number of providers in most African nations is scarce, and the cost of travel to reach a provider is often beyond most patients' means. When patients must forego treatment, they risk worsening eye/socket health as well as potential job loss or social rejection from their families and communities due to stigma associated with their condition. The impact of such stigma may sometimes even result in death.

Prosthetics for All was founded to improve patient access to services by funding initiatives aimed at increasing and sustaining the provider workforce in Africa's underserved regions.
